According to Lauren Womick, President of Kevin Sparks Signature Pools, the installation presented interesting challenges that her team turned into opportunities.

“We had to access the backyard via an alley that was higher than the pool’s planned elevation,” Womick explained. “The yard sloped downward from the alley to the house, which required strategic planning for the cut-in.”

Rather than viewing this as an obstacle, the team incorporated the elevation difference as a design feature, creating a stunning retaining wall that doubles as a waterfall. The alley runs parallel to the back of this water feature, making what could have been a limitation into a focal point.

The homeowner specifically wanted something both interesting and functional for their space, and Kevin Sparks Signature Pools delivered precisely that balance. The team also had to navigate carefully around existing landscaping and an existing basketball court positioned behind the new retaining wall, with the intention of maximizing space while maintaining balance and straight lines throughout the design.

The installation boasts premium features including a saltwater chlorination system, heating capabilities and a pool cover for year-round enjoyment. The team artfully integrated Techo-Bloc pavers with Raffinato coping and Blu Grande decking, which also caps the retaining wall. Tennessee blend stone from Culbreth Stone adds local character to the design.

For functionality, the pool is equipped with top-of-the-line Hayward equipment, including pump, filter, saltwater system and automation. The Kevin Sparks team added a poolside basketball goal, while the homeowner personally selected and installed the putting green and landscaping elements.

The integrated heated spa not only offers a relaxation zone but also serves as a heating system for the entire pool, adding both luxury and functionality to this urban retreat.

Team member Jeff Slaughter deserves credit for the thoughtful design, with additional team members Jonah and Ryan executed the precise installation work. Womick noted that working around existing landscaping and a basketball court behind the new retaining wall required careful planning.

“This was a fun pool to install and such a blessing to work with a wonderful client,” Womick shared, highlighting the collaborative spirit that makes these projects successful.
