Right now is a difficult and uncertain time for people all over the world. To combat the spread of COVID-19, many public pools have closed and social distancing is recommended. In addition, kids are now home from school and numerous workers now working remote from home. This can lead to feelings of isolation and boredom, but for pool owners, there’s a silver lining: a chance to enjoy family and what better way to do it than with a pool?
These are some ways families can make a splash together:
1. Stay Active
With many fitness centers closing to prevent the spread of the virus, it limits the options for exercise. But when you own a pool, it provides the opportunity to stay fit through lap swimming, water jogging, water aerobics or sports like pool volleyball or basketball. In fact, swimming is one of the best cardiovascular exercises and a great calorie burner. For kids and teens, a pool offers the opportunity to play games and swim, keeping them active.
2. Relax and De-stressing
Anxiety-levels are high during this time, but a swimming provides a peaceful respite to take a time out and relax. Lounging by the tranquil waters of a swimming pool will have you forgetting about the worries of the outside world for a little while.
3. Have a Staycation
With all the restrictions and travel bans, hopping on a plane or staying at a crowded resort isn’t advised (according to the CDC). With a pool, you have your very own backyard paradise where you can feel like you’re on a vacation–just make some cocktails (or “mocktails” for the kids), grab a towel and sunglasses and lounge by the crystal-clear waters in the sunshine together.
4. Enjoy the Fresh Air
There are many benefits when it comes to enjoying the great outdoors. Research shows that exposing your lungs to fresh air, and the scents of flowers and plants, can help to relieve stress and anxiety. And oxygen is thought to affect the levels of serotonin released in the body. So make sure the family takes some time to step outside and breathe the fresh air–and enjoying the pool is a great excuse to get outside!
5. Come Together
Your family may be practicing social distancing, but why not make the most of the time together? A provides a way to have fun with your family from playing games to together to even just hanging out and enjoying one another. You can even read together by the pool or have a family pool-side cook out.
