Small Backyard Pools for Small Spaces
Owning a pool is often associated with spacious properties and sprawling landscapes. But let’s be real, not everyone has a large backyard or space for a 40′ pool or even a 26′ pool, especially with the size of lots for new construction homes trending down for a while now. And then some backyards are not a typical space or there are existing structures to work around. So for some families, a small backyard pool makes the most sense.
If you have limited outdoor space, you do not need to feel deprived of the joys and benefits of having a fiberglass swimming pool. Come with us as we explore the wonders of fiberglass pools and their suitability for small spaces. Leisure Pools® has some amazing small backyard pool designs that offer the perfect solution to transform your compact outdoor area into the private oasis of your dreams.
The Rise of Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools have gained immense popularity throughout the years due to their durability, low maintenance requirements, and quick installation process. Unlike traditional concrete pools, which can take several months to construct, fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured and delivered in one piece, ready to be installed in your backyard. This not only saves time but also minimizes the disruption caused by construction activities. Plus, a fiberglass pool – no matter its size – adds a layer of beauty and elegance to any backyard space.
Further, a small backyard pool does not have to mean boring. Our compact pool designs are anything but. Plus, you can make it a focal point with water features, lounge seating and various landscaping appointments to suit your tastes and lifestyle.
Benefits of Fiberglass Pools for Small Spaces
Space Optimization: Fiberglass pools are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and depths. As a result, this makes them highly versatile for small spaces. Whether you have a narrow backyard or a compact courtyard, there’s a fiberglass pool design that can fit your available area. The ability to customize the shape and size of these pools allows you to maximize the utilization of your limited space. As such, you can freely create a stunning focal point without overwhelming the surrounding environment.
Quick Installation: As mentioned, fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured and delivered as a single unit. This makes the installation process significantly faster compared to other pool types. Within a matter of days, your fiberglass pool can be ready for use. This will minimize the disruption to your daily life and allow you to enjoy your new oasis sooner.
Low Maintenance: Fiberglass pools have a smooth and non-porous surface. This not only provides a luxurious feel but also makes them easy to clean and maintain. The non-porous nature of the fiberglass material inhibits the growth of algae and bacteria, thereby reducing the need for frequent scrubbing and chemical treatments. This translates to lower maintenance costs and less time spent on pool upkeep. A fiberglass pool, then, is ideal for busy individuals or families with limited time.
Our Small Backyard Pools
Our portfolio of designs has something for every backyard. And if your backyard is challenged on space, then you can make a huge statement with any one of our small fiberglass pool designs.
Plunge Pools
The trend towards smaller backyards has led to the development of the plunge pool. Plunge pools are a great way to beat the summer heat and to enjoy the cool waters of a swimming pool. But just because they’re small, it doesn’t mean you can’t use them for exercise. Plunge pools are great for water aerobics and water jogging, and you can install a Swim Jet System too.
These small backyard inground pools still have the beauty, gorgeous color range and quality of our larger pools. Want a stunning visual effect? You can get it with a small pool.
We offer two plunge pool options:
The Fiji Plunge: Our smallest fiberglass pool. This pool is a great fit for compact spaces as it is 9’6″ in length. It offers a wide sitting bench and flat-bottom design.
The Palladium Plunge: This pool comes in two size options including 16′ and 20′. It also offers ample seating and a flat-bottom design.
Smaller Backyard Pools with Great Shapes
If you’re looking for a small backyard pool that will fit within a challenging space, Leisure Pools has these options:
The Courtyard Roman: At under 20′ in length, this pool can fit in tighter spaces. It may be small, but it’s packed with features. It’s perfect for a Swim Jet System, with the jets being located between the two sets of steps at the shallow end. At the other end in the curved seating area you can install Spa Jets and even Seat Aeration. This will create that massaging hydrotherapy effect you get in a spa. A table can be fitted into the curved seating area to complete the picture. The main body of the pool is great for playing games or simply relaxing and cooling off on hot Summer days.
The Tuscany: The Tuscany’s freeform shape can adapt to any theme you may wish to create with your swimming pool area. It fits perfectly in just about any pool site and is particularly adaptable to difficult corner sites where the freeform shapes afford considerable versatility of placement. In addition, the Tuscany’s free flowing curves allow you to maneuvre the pool into places that many other more formal shapes won’t fit. It comes in two sizes: 28’6″ and 23’3″.
Other Leisure Pools We Love with Size Options Under 20′
The Harmony: This pool comes in a 19’8″ option and 16’5″ option. By having the full length bench and steps on one side, the design allows the deepest part of the pool to be well away from any house foundations. This can often allow the pool to be situated closer to the home, which is a great benefit where space for a pool is limited.
The Elegance: This pool has a 19’8″ option. Not only a visually stunning pool, the Elegance also maximizes the space inside where you swim. The Elegance has a large unobstructed swimming corridor which is perfect for swimming laps. Also, the central step location incorporates a generous seating area where optional spa jets can be installed to create a relaxing nook.
Questions to Ask When Considering a Small Backyard Pool
How big is a “small” pool?
There’s no one standard definition of a “small” backyard pool, but generally speaking, anything under 30 feet in length and 20 feet in width would be considered small.
How big does my backyard have to be to install a small fiberglass inground pool?
Our smallest pool — the Fiji Plunge — is less than 10 feet long and 7 feet wide. So theoretically, with a few feet on each side and an area for equipment, a yard as small as 400 square feet would probably be enough.
How far away from my house can I put my pool?
It depends on where you live. Different areas of the country have different restrictions for house close to a home an unground pool can be, but generally speaking, the pool should be at least 10 feet away from the house, preferably more. But be sure to contact your local zoning or building authorities to get the correct answer.
Will I be OK with a swimming pool and pool area taking up almost all of my backyard?
This is a question that only you can answer. If you have a large backyard — say half an acre or more — then a swimming pool and the surrounding area can just be one part of a backyard oasis. Adding in an outdoor kitchen or having an area for the kids of pets to play is no big deal.
But the smaller the yard, the more that a swimming pool — even a small one — will dominate it. If you are OK with that, then go for it. Hey, at least there won’t be as much grass to cut in the summer.
