Celebrate the 4th of July By the Pool

4th of July by the pool

When most of us think about the July 4th holiday, we typically think of fireworks, backyard barbeques and displays of Old Glory all over the place. You can’t go wrong with all of those things. However, if you pair them all up with a backyard pool, you can have the party of a lifetime.

If you’re ready to rock and roll with the red, white, and blue this year, let’s make a list and prepare for the backyard pool party fun.

Clean Up the Pool Area First

Just as you would clean the inside of your home before you hosted a party, you should also clean your outdoor living spaces. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and tend to the following matters:

  • Clean the pool deck and remove any clutter.

  • Sweep the pool to get rid of any dirt and debris

  • Brush and wash the pool deck

  • Check and clean out your pool pump

  • Ditto on the filter

  • Be sure to test and balance the water

  • Shock your pool in advance of the party

  • Run the pool filter the night before the party

  • Make sure your pool is comfortable temperature-wise for the big day

4th of July Party Food and Drink Ideas

If you have an outdoor kitchen, make the most of it, especially if it has a fridge so you can keep the cold stuff cold.

If you just have a grill, fire up some burgers and hot dogs.  Don’t forget the buns, chips, and all of the condiments.  Have a few coolers on hand filled with water bottles and various types of sodas. Something else that almost everyone loves: fresh fruit. Think summertime favorites like watermelon, strawberries and blueberries that tie into the red, white and blue motif.

For a tasty, non-alcoholic refreshing beverage, serve up some Patriotic Fruit Punch.  All you need is some cranberry juice, virgin Pina Colada mix, blue raspberry juice/punch, ice, and Twizzlers.  Find the recipe here.

Don’t forget party favors, either.  Think: sparklers, handheld fans, bottles of bubbles, and Independence Day candies and cookies.

Fun 4th of July Pool Party Games

Make your own Fourth of July dart board.  All you need is some red, white, and blue balloons, a white pegboard, darts, and small prizes to put in the balloons. To find out how to assemble this fun game, visit Giggles Galore.

Be sure to include guests of all ages, too. For the more adventurous ones, have water balloons or pool noodles on hand for the ultimate pool party battle. A floating basketball goal can provide plenty of fun moments.

For those who just want to sit back, relax, and take it all in, provide some mini spray bottles with which they can spray and refresh themselves throughout the event.

For a more low-key event, opt for an outdoor movie that all can enjoy after the sun goes down.

No matter how you choose to celebrate the holiday of the season, be sure to do so safely.  And don’t forget to take lots of pictures so you can remember this day for years to come. A selfie frame can help with this.

Enjoy a 4th of July by the pool to the fullest, making it yet another great reason to enjoy a Life of Leisure.
