Leisure Pools September 2026 Pool of the Month: Kevin Sparks Signature Pools

A Brentwood, Tennessee backyard built for togetherness

Some of the best backyards start with a simple phone call. For one Brentwood, Tennessee family, it started with a homeowner just beginning his search and wanting to understand the difference between fiberglass and gunite. He didn’t have a budget in mind yet. He just had questions, and the team at Kevin Sparks Signature Pools was glad to answer every one of them.

Those early questions eventually turned into one of the most cohesive outdoor living spaces we’ve seen all year. That’s why we’re proud to name Kevin Sparks Signature Pools as our September 2026 Pool of the Month for Leisure Pools.

Why The Ultimate pool design was the right fit

After comparing their options, the homeowners chose The Ultimate 40 from Leisure Pools, the largest size in The Ultimate lineup. It gave the family room to swim, lounge and soak, all within one clean design.

“The Ultimate offers an exceptional balance of functionality and design,” said Lauren Womick, President of Kevin Sparks Signature Pools. “Its clean lines complement the home, while the swimming and relaxation areas support different ways of enjoying the backyard.”

The integrated spa was a big part of the appeal. Because the spa is built right into the pool, the family needed less equipment and has lower maintenance costs than they would with a separate spa. The tanning ledge makes getting into the water easy and gives everyone a shallow spot to lounge and cool off on warm Tennessee afternoons without swimming.

Graphite Grey sets the tone

For their pool color, the homeowners chose Graphite Grey. The darker finish gives the water a rich sense of depth and pairs naturally with the neutral hardscape, natural stone and architectural details around it.

“Its darker color contrasts beautifully with the lighter patio surfaces,” Womick said.

The waterline tile from Noble Tile Supply helps tie the gray pool to the bright white decking. It also highlights one of the best things about Graphite Grey. When the sun hits the water just right, it brings out beautiful blue tones.

Fire, water and stone

Two stacked stone pillars topped with fire and water bowls from The Outdoor Plus give the pool its showstopping focal point. The stone adds texture and architectural detail, while the bowls bring together flickering flames and the soothing sound of falling water.

“The fire and water features serve as focal points, combining movement, sound and visual interest,” Womick said.

The spa sits in what might be the best seat in the house. From there, the homeowners can take in the waterfall and fire bowls while still feeling connected to whatever is happening under the covered patio.

Pool materials chosen for beauty and easy care

Every surface in this backyard was picked to look great and stay that way. The coping is marble, and the patio features large porcelain pavers laid in a five-piece pattern. Porcelain stays cooler underfoot than many other materials and is easy to maintain. Because the pavers sit on a concrete base, the family won’t have to deal with grass creeping up between them over time.

A crisp white rock border along the patio edge adds a clean finishing touch and a little visual separation between surfaces. After dark, Hayward ColorLogic 320 lights set the pool aglow.

One backyard, many ways to enjoy it with a pool

Kevin Sparks Signature Pools built the pool, water features and hardscapes, while the homeowner hired a general contractor to build the covered outdoor living space with its fireplace and outdoor kitchen. Both were part of the original design and were built at the same time, which made it easier to bring everything together.

“The pool, lounge areas, outdoor kitchen and fireplace create distinct experiences within one cohesive backyard,” Womick said.

Throughout the build, the team kept the schedule organized, stayed in close communication with the homeowners and coordinated closely with the general contractor. Access to the backyard meant working up the driveway and around the existing structure, which took a little extra time and attention.

Smart pool equipment behind the scenes

The pool runs on a full Hayward equipment package, including a Hayward 950 pump, a SwimClear 4030 filter, a natural gas heater and a salt cell sanitizer. The system is fully automated, so the homeowners can control the pool, spa, lights, fire bowls and water features right from their phone.

A true partnership

For Womick, the most rewarding part of this project was seeing how every piece came together.

“We are especially proud of how all the elements work together,” she said. “The pool feels like an intentional part of the home and outdoor living area rather than a separate addition.”

She also credited her crew for working side by side with the homeowner from start to finish. They made sure his vision came to life and that the whole family was happy every step of the way.

Today, the backyard provides everything: a place to entertain, spend time together and simply relax.
